Daniel Gerhard Brown is an American author and is mostly known for his thriller novels.
Dan was born in Exeter New Hampshire US in 1964.
As a boy he attended Phillips Exeter Academy, a prep-school where his father was a mathematics teacher.
After graduating he moved to California to pursue a career in the music industry, but after a few failed attempts at making a career out of music he tried his hand at writing.
In 1993 Brown joined the faculty at Exeter as an English and creative-writing teacher.
Here Dan picked up an interest in covert intelligence agencies and began his writing career, starting in 1998 with Digital Fortress.
This was followed in 2000 by the first of the Robert Langdon stories Angels & Demons.
Deception point followed then the breakthrough novel three years later The Da Vinci Code, which went on to sell 80 million copies.
The Da Vinci code was also made into a very successful movie starring Tom Hanks as the main character Robert Langdon.
Tom Hanks has since start in three of the Robert Langdon films.
There have been three further novels in the series, The Lost Symbol, which was published in 2009, followed by Inferno in 2013.
The latest Robert Langdon novel Origin came out in 2017.
The theme for these thrillers is based on Christianity and historical themes and are basically treasure hunts set in a 24 hour period, so there is a great deal of tension and excitement.
Since the success of The Da Vinci Code, Dan's novels have sold more than 200 million copies.
